Yokai Hunters Society is a rules-light pen & paper RPG about monster hunters in Meiji Japan based on Tunnel Goons. The adventures you can play range from facing the monster of the week, to complex investigations or political plots, to routine cleansing jobs.
The game uses a 2d6 + stat + bonuses roll system, requiring a result of 9 or higher to succeed.
Hunters' background and equipment play an important role in gaining advantages and boosting rolls.
Combat is fast and brutal, discouraging hunters from resolving scenarios through sheer violence and encouraging them to seek more creative solutions.
If you want to try the game, the original pamphlet version, created for the Goon Jam back in 2019, is still available as a free demo and includes everything you need to play.
The standard zine edition is available in PDF at itch.io and DriveThruRPG and in paper thru LULU.
Our friends at Nigredo Press have been releasing everything related to the game in Italian, while Rzucaj Nie Gadaj has released a Polish version of the pamphlet.
